ATR fun in the sun

Our maintenance training team spent March and April in the Fiji Islands presenting an ATR42/72 type course to staff of Fiji’s national airline, Air Pacific.

The course was delivered over 6 weeks, and included coverage of both Mechanical and Avionic licence categories. Three specialist subject matter experts from the Aviation Institute's type training team ensured the training materials were professionally delivered, and any technical questions or clarification of the ATR’s complex systems  from Air Pacific’s experienced engineering team were well handled. All instructors are Christchurch based, Geoff Skilton led all Avionic subjects, while Glen Ewans and Paul Murphy delivered the Powerplant and Airframe systems respectively. Over the last 2 years this team has travelled to Nepal, Australia, Fiji and Vanuatu delivering ATR training to operators and maintainers.   The Aviation Institutes ATR 42/72 training programme includes both early and later model (excl -600) ATR variants, and it is planned to add this type to the Aviation Institutes EASA147 Certificate later in 2011.
