After completing the Air NZ National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering students can apply for an apprenticeship or traineeship. These vary by employer but are generally about 3-4 years in duration. During this time apprentices complete the required Unit Standards through a mix of on job training and block courses. An apprentice is paid a salary by the employer. Once qualified aircraft maintenance engineers are highly sought after around the world & may work for airlines, line maintenance companies, engine or component overhaul workshops, or in the wider general aviation industry. Employers include Air NZ Technical Operations, RNZAF, Hamilton Jet, Airwork & many other aviation industry employers.
